As part of their continued Covid-19 protocols, Many school districts across Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois are limiting the number of students that can be gathered at one time for school assemblies. The Super U! Challenge has several new booking options available for presenting to smaller classroom groups or grade-level cohorts to accommodate these restrictions.
Below are the details about the half-day and full-day booking options, including the number of sessions that can be presented during each option. The number of sessions indicated includes allowing for 10-15 minutes between each session for switching groups and allowing the presenter to sanitize props and prepare for the next presentation.
School Assembly Options For Small Groups / Cohorts:
Half-Day Rate. This option reserves up to 3 consecutive hours for the presenter to be at your school. During these 3 hours, the presenter can present up to 3 40-45-minute sessions OR up to 5 25-30 minute sessions during this time.
Full-Day Rate. The option books the presenter for your entire school day. The presenter can present up to 6 40-45 minute sessions OR up to 10 25-30 minute sessions during this time.
Traditional 1 or 2 40-45 minute program options are also still available for schools that can host larger gatherings of students.

Due to the set-up time and space requirements for this program, it is best to have the program set up in one room for the entire half-day or full-day, and have the different groups come down to the presentation at their scheduled time. A gym, music room, or media center are all excellent spaces to host the assembly. (Note: If you need an assembly program where the presenter can move classroom-to-classroom, we highly recommend the “Krazy Clues: To Be A Leader” or the “You’ve Got Character” programs from Midwest School Shows.)
The 40-45 minute sessions are the entire Super U! Challenge show. The 25-30 minutes sessions include “audience favorites,” such as the slime challenge and hero challenge, as well as other challenges and messaging that is best targeted to the grade level present.
While hosting smaller group (cohort) school assemblies may differ from how schools in Michigan (and beyond) typically do assembly programs; most schools have found the process easy. Our presenters have been working in schools for over 20 years and always work hard to help make sure the day runs smoothly.
Cohort audience assembly programs offer several advantages over a typical whole school assembly, including the opportunity for more students to actively participate as volunteers in the show throughout the day. Teachers also appreciate having the opportunity to sign-up for a time slot that works best for them on their classroom day.
In addition to providing these small group options for Covid-19 era school assemblies, health and safety are always a top priority for our presenters. All “Super U! Challenge” presenters and Midwest School Shows’ staff that enter a school building are fully vaccinated for Covid-19. Proof of vaccination can be provided, upon request. Hand sanitizer is provided for every volunteer before handling props. Props and equipment are cleaned and sanitized between programs. When requested, the presenter can wear a mask during the presentation and while loading and unloading equipment in the building.
